Playing The Charts

Performance scores and parts

We have found with The London Horn Sound that the more challenging the arrangements, the more horn ensembles want to tackle them. It has been a pleasure to make the music available to groups around the world through Cala Music Publishing (CMP).

Performance scores and parts for the Give It One compositions and arrangements and the Sound Of Music Jazz Suite can also be purchased. Just click on the "Scores and Parts" box on the home page.

The material is exactly that used by the musicians at the recording sessions—which means that the improvised jazz solos remain un-notated and free for your own interpretation. There are cues for horns when Wagner tubas are not available.

Please use this blog to tell us your ideas and your experience with the music!

Just wondering how a person downloads the Edelweiss music on whatever kind of equipment you are speaking of. I do not have an iPod or CD burner or what ever one needs to download that chart. Also--any idea when the sheet music is going to be available for it? I really wanted to hear the whole Edleweiss chart but don't know how. Don Krause

Don, to access Edelweiss, click the "Sound Of Music Jazz Suite--Download Tracks" icon on the Home Page and follow the instructions, which we hope are clearly written. There is a small charge, for which you get all four movements of the Suite.

This brings the files into your computer, and you can play them in any of the standard programmes, such as Windows Media Player, iTunes and Quick Time Player. (All of these can be downloaded free--you'll find them on Google.)

These programmes also help you burn a CD for your personal use.

We just had a fourteen horn reading session at a north Shore church in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. This is about to become a monthly event using both pros and serious amateurs. The London Horn Sound CD has been inspiring for all of us. We will need to get some of the larger ensemble charts to take advantage of larger number of hornists.

Maestro Simon,

Love both the London Horn CD's. How about one of nothing but film music?
BTW, I played 3rd horn for you in a performance of Rite of Spring with the North Texas State University orchestra back in the '80s.

For those wondering about the charts from the GIO CD, they are all available from Cala Records. The site page is [http://www.calarecords.com/acatalog/Give_It_One___Sound_Of_Music_Jazz_Suite.html]
The solos from all tracks have been transcribed and now form part of the scores and parts package, so everyone can have a go at getting Pip Eastop's top Zs!
